The Liar, The Truth Teller and The Random Answerer

While working for bachelor degree project a month ago, Bulă decided to to cheer me up with a brain twister puzzle, which in my opinion is the best puzzle I ever solved:

There is a truth teller (always tells the truth), a liar (always lies), and one that sometimes answers truthfully and sometimes lies. Each man knows who is who. You may ask three yes or no question to determine who is who. Each time you ask a question, it must only be directed to one of the men (of your choice). You may ask the same question more than once, but of course it will count towards your total. What are your questions and to whom will you ask them?

XL97: Data Not Returned from Query Using ORACLE Data Source

I know that some bugs may be mind braking for developers but no developer with self-esteem would accept such a workaround unless it works for...

SYMPTOMS: When you try to return data from Microsoft Query 97 to a Microsoft Excel 97 worksheet, the spinning globe icon (which signifies that a query is processing) may appear for a long time, and then the query returns no data to your worksheet.

WORKAROUND: If you move your mouse pointer continuously while the data is being returned to Microsoft Excel, the query may not fail. Do not stop moving the mouse until all the data has been returned to Microsoft Excel.

The other workarounds can be found here but this is the clever one.

I must presume that the developers don't have access to M$ Help and Support server to avoid any frustrations it may cause to the 15000 developers worldwide.

Firefox Stupid Bug in Dual Screen Configuration

De când programez acasă am început să folosesc destul de des configuraţia de dual-screen. Pe un ecran ţin Eclipse-ul pe celălalt ţin documentaţia. Până de curând îmi era greu sa folosesc dual-screen pentru că ecranul lapop-ului avea rezoluţia de 1400x1050 iar ecranul secundar 1024x768. De când am s-a stricat ecranul laptop-ului şi l-am înlocuit cu unu de 1024x768 totul arata bine.

Am intrat ieri într-o sesiune de programare şi am rămas uimit să constat că aveam Firefox-lul pe un display şi meniul de auto-completition pentru address bar în celălalt display. Păi zicei şi voi dacă se poate folsi aşa :).

Fix-ul este simplu: înainte de a seta configuraţia dual-screen închideţi toate sesiunile de Firefox şi deschideţi alt Firefox dupa ce intraţi in dual-screen.

Seneka Labs - Open Source fără niciun comentariu

Mă uitam la mult prea râvnitul si nefolositul nostru laborator (Eu aka Bulă şi Bulă aka Alex = Seneka) şi eram uimit de acea temă superbă şi un pic modificată temă de Wordpress.

Nu voi intra in detalii despre intenţiile acestui proiect dar ce vreau să subliniez este faptul că suntem OPEN. Suntem Open Source, credem în Open Source şi sperăm să putem rasplăti comunitatea Open Source pentru tot ce ne-a oferit.

Dar pănă se mai liniştesc apele cu facultatea noi rămânem OPEN iar mai încolo vom ajunge să fim agresiv de OPEN. Tot ce vă rugăm e sa nu comentaţi :)

Eclipse MTJ Webinar

De ceva vreme urmaresc cu atenţie Eclipse Live aşteptând cu nerăbdare câte o prezentare interesantă.

Ultimul webinar la care am am avut plăcerea să particip era despre Eclipse Mobile Tools for Java, un proiect menit să ofere utilizatorilor Eclipse un mediu de dezvoltare Java ME. Acest proiect este un merge intre Eclipse MTJ 0.7 si EclipseME, două plug-in-uri pentru Eclipse ce doreau să aducă puterea framework-ului Eclipse dezvoltatorilor de aplicaţii mobile şi dezvoltatorilor de aplicaţii pentru dezvoltarea de aplicaţii mobile.

EclipseME, un plug-in pe care l-am folosit cu succes in trecut (succesul a fost doar in folosire nu şi în dezvoltare), cred că este cea mai bună alternativă pentru Netbeans.

MTJ 0.7 este un framework pentru dezvoltarea de IDE-uri pentru diferite Mobile SDK-uri.
În final MTJ 0.9 aduce puterea acestor două plug-in-uri dezvoltatorilor cât şi companiilor de telefoane mobile.

Prezentarea a fost interesantă, a abordat ambele aspecte ale plug-in-ului şi a fost oreacum bine organizată dar la final timpul alocat întrbărilor a fost foarte scurt.
Ce m-a amuzat a fost chestionarul de final care întreba dacă a fost interesantă prezentarea. Singurele opţiuni de răspuns erau "YES". Şi toate astea din cază ca am rezoluţia de 1024x768. Sunt curios dacă utilizatorii de netbook-uri aveau vre-o opţiune.
